The information available on the flags of the 7th Kentucky Infantry is somewhat scarce. None of the flags ever used by the regiment are known to survive. Through the piecing together of estimates, original reports, and first person accounts, and the comparison to flags of other units, an almost certain idea of what the flags looked like has been attained.
This flag is thought to be the first flag of the 7th. It was carried during the battle of Shiloh in 1862. It remained the flag of the unit until 1864 when the regiment was made "Mounted Infantry" and transferred to Forrest's command.
This is the flag that was carried by the 7th Kentucky after it was mounted in 1864. It was the standard flag carried by the units under Forrest's command. The battle honors on the flag are unique to the unit and represent the earlier battles while they were still regular infantry.
